OEM vs ODM Cleaning Appliances: What Can Be Customized?

Choose between branding an existing platform and developing a new appearance, structure or function.

OEM and ODM are both used for customized cleaning appliance projects, but they do not describe the same level of work. The right route depends on whether the buyer wants to brand an existing platform or develop a new product.

OEM and ODM: the practical difference

Existing-platform OEMFull ODM development

Typical scopeBranding, colour, configuration and packagingAppearance, structure, functions, prototype and tooling
Sample stageReview an available product configurationReview prototypes and development samples
MOQ and scheduleFollow the selected product termsConfirmed after engineering and tooling review

What can be customized on an existing product?

For an existing cleaning appliance platform, available OEM options can include:

  • Logo application and product labels
  • Product colour and visible finish
  • Accessory configuration
  • Neutral or customized packaging
  • Colour box artwork
  • Instruction manual language
  • Market-specific plug and documentation requirements

The final scope is confirmed by product and recorded in the quotation and order documents.

What is involved in full ODM development?

A full ODM project can begin with a new appearance, structure or functional requirement. It can involve industrial design, engineering review, prototype development, new moulds, validation, compliance preparation and mass production.

Because a new product requires engineering and tooling evaluation, its MOQ, cost and schedule should be quoted as a separate development project rather than using the standard terms of an existing model.

What should a buyer include in the project brief?

A useful first brief should identify:

  • Target country and sales channel
  • Preferred product category or reference model
  • Estimated quantity and launch plan
  • Required performance or functional differences
  • Logo, colour, packaging and manual requirements
  • Required certifications or destination-market documents

Samples, payment and warranty

Paid samples are available for every current LuxVac product. The buyer pays sample shipping, and the sample charge can be credited toward the subsequent bulk order. Standard payment terms are 30% deposit and 70% balance, with EXW, FOB and CIF supported.

LuxVac provides a one-year warranty. Quality issues are reviewed using the product model, order number and supporting photos or video; replacement parts or a replacement can be arranged according to the specific case.

Choose the route that matches the project

Use existing-platform OEM when the priority is a faster launch with an available product. Use full ODM when the project requires a distinct appearance, structure or function and can support engineering and tooling development.

Before requesting a quotationTell the sales team whether you want an existing model customized or a new product developed. This prevents standard OEM terms from being confused with a full ODM project.
